Study One Results (Pt 2
As I said at the beginning of the results of part 1 of this study, I still belive creativity is a natural ability which can be enhanced a small amount by cannabis, however this is only after one study so results could vary.
After my participants felt they were ‘high’ I once again asked them to draw. However they requested drawing themselves, they had a new eagerness to take part and be involved, I prompted them with the same emotions again, they both received the same as before. This time there drawing took a bit longer and had more to do with their feelings at the specific time rather than feelings they had felt in the past.
Participant 1 - Happy

What have you drawn?
Well im sat in the pub, and it’s the world cup, and we have just scored, and I have a pint because that’s where I want to be right now.
Why have you drawn that?
Because that’s where I want to be right now, because it would be amazing wouldn’t it, with everyone around and stuff, I could do with some crisps there too
What is it about that, that makes you happy?
We are winning, and I have a pint!
Okay, so why have you just used pencil?
That’s what I used before, I had it at the ready.
Participant 2 – Sad

What have you drawn?
Well im outside Mcdonalds, I just got there after a bit of a walk and they are shut! Look its says closedd (holds picture up and points to closed sign on the door.
Why have you drawn that?
Im really hungry and I think that would be the most upsetting thing that could happen to me right now, yeh it’s the most sad thing that could happen to me right now, I think I would cry.
What is is about that that makes you sad?
I cant have a big mac, or a cheese burger, or like a McChicken sandwhich meal, I want all of them and they’ve closed, when do they ever close?
Why have you used the materials you have used?
Blue is dark colour again isnt it that’s sad, and I like the felt tip its fun to draw with I can colour in my lines so they look bigger, I couldn’t find the other colours, id of liked to do it really realistically, but why bother, McDonalds has closed!

My initial proposal for this Collaborative brief, had the art therapy thoughts and Research behind it, however the subjects i would of liked to be involved in my study were to children, preferably primary school age. After receiving an email in regards to a voluntary position at Leeds General infirmary, as an assistant in the teaching of Art to Children within the hospital, I saw this as a huge opportunity in terms of work experience and possible collaborations and studies into art with a psychological approach. As I have experience as an Under 11’s Athletics coach and gaining work experience as both a Sports Teacher and assistant within Art Lessons for under 16s, i knew this was something i could involve myself in and develop further.

Art Therapy…

Art Therapy and Art Psycotherpay has been something I have had a keen interest in since i took my A-levels, doing both psychology and Fine Art I began to look into the possibilities these diverse subjects combined could achieve.
Art therapy can be defined as a style of expressive therapy which uses various creative processes to create art and therefore improve ones emotional, physical and mental well being.
Something i find wonderful about art therapy, is that anyone can take part, you do not have to have training within the arts, or be passionate about art to be involved.
Many things can be achieved through Art Therapy varying through different people. counseling, healing, treatment, rehabilitation, psychotherapy are all things which Art Therapy can be used for and can provide one with a deeper understanding or acceptance of themselves.
Alot of therapy forms invlove the use of language and words as a form of communication, in many situations many people are incapable of expressing themselves in this manor.
There are many other forms of Tharapy in the creative arts, such as through performance, expressive art therapy tends to use general and traditional forms of art are used such as; painting, Drawing, sculpture, and photography.
As with most therapies art therapy is generally used as a treatment, however it can be used as an insight to the patient/subject’s thought processes. Along with a relief to stress or tension.
